Student Report – Reading Assistant Plus Performance Details

On this page:

About the report

Use this report to listen to the student's latest audio recordings while reviewing information about the student's performance in Reading Assistant Plus. For more about audio recordings see About Reading Assistant Plus audio recordings. To manage a student's audio recordings see Student Report – Reading Assistant Plus Audio Recordings & Portfolio.

Performance Details

You can review the student’s most recent reading of a selection, along with details on the student’s performance in that selection. You can also save recordings to a student's portfolio, and download a copy of the student's recording in MP3 format, or M4A format when recorded on iPad.

A recording includes only the first 90 seconds of the reading, and includes complete sentences only.

Selection summary. When you open the Performance Details for a selection, you'll see a summary of the selection at the top, which includes the following information.

  • The student's name
  • The title of the reading selection
  • The ATOS grade equivalent for the selection, indicating the reading level of the selection (see About Reading Assistant Plus content design)
  • The date that the reading was recording

Add to Portfolio. For important or notable recordings, use the Add to Portfolio button to save a copy of the recording to the student's portfolio. That way, the recording won’t be replaced if the student reads the selection again. When you save the recording, use a unique name and meaningful name. This allows you to save and identify multiple readings of the same selection. See Recording Portfolio. Once the selection has been saved to the portfolio, the Add to Portfolio button will no longer be available.

Note that Reading Assistant Plus automatically adds the latest recording from the first two selections to the student’s portfolio. This way, you’ll have an archived copy of the student’s first recordings from the component. The component adds “Beginning Benchmark 1” and “Beginning Benchmark 2” to the recording titles so you can identify them. To learn more see Recording Portfolio.

More performance details. Click a title in the blue bar to view more performance details for the selection (see the rest of this topic for more information). Use the Close button to exit Performance Details and return to the current Reports page.

Selection (recordings)

The Selection page lets you listen to the most recent recording of a reading while reviewing the text from that reading. The recording includes only the first 90 seconds of the reading, and includes complete sentences only.

The Performance Details always includes results from the student's most recent recording of the selection; however, if you've saved an earlier recording to the student's portfolio and you're viewing that recording, the selection text and the Words to Practice will match the saved recording. To learn about portfolios see Student Report – Reading Assistant Plus Audio Recordings & Portfolio.

Also, mySciLEARN only saves the student's last twenty (20) recordings for review. If the audio no longer exists and the recording was not archived in the student's portfolio, you can still access Performance Details from the reports to access the other results.

Play the recording. Use the audio player on the Selection page to play the recording:  Play, Pause, Volume

Download Audio. Use the Download Audio button to download a copy of the recording in MP3 format. A recording includes only the first 90 seconds of the reading.

Selection text. When reviewing the selection text, notice that each word is color coded to indicate how well the student read the word in that reading. The student should practice any words in blue or red. To learn more see Words to Practice.

  • Mastered (green). Word read clearly and with ease; recognized by software.
  • Needed work (blue). Word not read fluently but still recognized by software. This word will appear in the Words to Practice list.
  • Try again (red). Word not read or not recognized by software. Intervention provided. This word will appear in the Words to Practice list.

Words to Practice

The Words to Practice page provides a list of words from the recording that the student should practice. Each practice word is color coded as follows. Words that are part of a phrase and were read correctly appear in green:

  • Needed work (blue). Word not read fluently but still recognized by software.
  • Try again (red). Word not read or not recognized by software. Intervention provided

When reviewing Performance Details for an earlier recording that was saved in the student's portfolio, the Words to Practice will show the results from that saved recording. To learn more see Selection (recordings).

Tip: If you notice that the software continually intervenes on correctly read words, try adjusting the speech recognition settings for that student. See Speech recognition settings.

The Think About Its page lists each question or prompt from the Think About Its, along with all possible responses. The correct response is in bold. The student's responses from the first attempt at the Think About Its also appear here, color coded as follows.

  • Incorrect (red). The student chose this incorrect response.
