Zoom screen sharing tips

During your remote sessions with students, you may want to show them the exercise demos using your screen sharing program. If you are using Zoom, follow these simple steps to ensure your students see the demo screen you are sharing. Please note, if your Zoom account allows you to share your entire screen, you won’t need to follow these steps, but if you share a single browser window you will.

  • To access the Fast ForWord exercise demos, go to the Manage tab in mySciLEARN and click on Exercise Demos in the upper right corner. From there you can go to any component and choose an exercise to demo. If you start sharing your screen before launching a demo, Zoom will not see the exercise demo that launches, because it appears in a new browser window.
  • Make sure to select a demo first and that it appears in front of everything else. Then click the Share Screen option in Zoom and you'll see the following two options. Choose the demo you just launched to share.
  • You will also want to share your computer sound so the students can hear the demo. After you have started sharing your screen, hover on the green bar below to access the menu called More and choose Share computer sound.
  • If you are sharing multiple exercise demos, stop sharing after each demo and follow the steps above once you've launched the new demo and start sharing your screen again.
